Qatar, like Christian Grey from 50 Shades of Grey, is a charming character, but sometimes very specific. It would seem that the country is surrounded on all sides by the Persian Gulf. Come and swim. What could possibly go wrong? But in reality, everything is a little more complicated than it seems at first glance.
- Firstly, the beaches of Doha are mostly paid.
- Secondly, many of them have such a thing as “Ladies Day”, when even 5-year-old boys (with their mothers) are not allowed on the beach.

And most importantly: there are not so many beach areas in the capital of Qatar. You can walk by the sea, breathe the sea, but not swim in it. Almost the entire city center, from the Souk Waqif market to the colorful houses of the Mina District, stands by the Persian Gulf. But there are no beaches here. As they say: “Look, but don’t touch it.”

Probably, now you think that Qatar is not very suitable for a beach holiday. But this is certainly not the case.
- The country has absolutely stunning beaches, lost among the sand dunes;
- And in Doha itself, you can even find your own “Maldives” – with turquoise waters and hotels on stilts.

Paid Beach Clubs are well equipped. Many of them have not only umbrellas and deck chairs, but also food courts with outdoor cinemas. And you can often get there for free. And I’ll tell you how to do it now. As one great Bulgarian thinker used to say, “You have to come prepared to meet a star.”
What do Doha’s beach clubs look like?
There are about 10 official beach clubs in the capital of Qatar. The most famous of them are:
- Doha Sands (at DECC metro station);
- West Bay Beach (ibid.);
- Katara Beach (near Katara Cultural Village);
- And beach 974, located near the football arena of the same name.
As an example, I’ll show you what the beach club “Doha Sands” looks like in the embassy quarter of the city.

There was a cash register and a security post at the entrance, where a beefy guy was examining backpacks quite carefully. Then there’s a long food court with mismatched food and overpriced prices…

They were forbidden to come to the beach with their own water and groceries, but at the entrance a nice girl gave everyone towels and a bottle of water.
As for umbrellas and sun beds, there were plenty of them at any time. Special canopies provided shade, and the availability of free Wi-Fi created conditions for cultural recreation.

There was also a children’s area and various sports grounds on the beach. The tennis court and basketball court were permanently closed for some reason. But you could play volleyball, billiards or ping-pong at any time.

In a separate building were locatedshowers, toilets, and changing rooms.

As you can see from the photo, they looked pretty neat. And in general, this beach club made a pleasant impression on me.
How much does the entrance to the beach club cost?
It all depends on a specific location, a specific month, and even a specific day of the week. The price is lower on weekdays. On weekends (and in Qatar it’s Friday and Saturday) – a little higher.
In the winter of 2026, West Bay Beach, Doha Sands and Beach 974 held approximately the same price level – 35 QAR on a weekday and 50 QAR on weekends and holidays. Children under the age of 6 were usually allowed in for free. And there were special discounts for teenagers (under the age of 14).

But I repeat: prices are constantly changing (and in peak season they confidently reach 80 or even 100 QAR). Therefore, before traveling, be sure to check the social networks of beach clubs.:
- @westbaybeach
- @974.beach
- @dohasandsbeach.

That’s how you’ll find out that Beach 974 organizes free transfers from Ras Bu Aboud metro station, and West Bay Beach (in the city’s namesake area) has its own outdoor cinema with free movie screenings.
How do I get into one of Doha’s beach clubs for free?

Many hotels in Qatar provide their guests with free vouchers to beach clubs. For example, the beach club Doha Sands can be visited at no extra charge by guests of the following hotels:
- W Doha,
- Ezdan Hotel,
- Element West Bay,
- City Center Rotana,
- Best Plaza West Bay and some others.

The system works very simply. Come to the reception in the morning and you will receive a special pass to the beach club. Nothing supernatural is required of you.
To continue the topic, I will list several hotels with free access to the nearby West Bay beach. These are:
- Retaj Al Rayyan;
- Pullman Doha West Bay;
- Dusit Hotel and Suites.
The list of hotels is incomplete. And I fully admit that changes may occur in this system over time. But now everything works like this. At the beginning of 2026, I myself had the opportunity to test this system in two hotels from this list at once.
The cheapest beach in Doha
It is located in the center of the city – in the Katara Cultural Village. In the winter of 2026, the entrance fee was 10 QAR (less than 3$). For this money, the guests received a high chair under an umbrella, warm and clean sand under their feet and, in fact, access to the sea itself.

Overall, Katara Beach club is a pretty good option for a vacation. However, if you can walk to other beach clubs from neighboring hotels, then you will most likely have to take the subway here. You need to go to Katara station, and then you need to walk another 1.5 km (or ride these free golf carts that take tourists to the local “Cultural Village”).

This place itself is something like VDNKh in Moscow. In addition to the inexpensive beach club, there is a large amphitheater, a planetarium, a dozen free museums, the golden mosque and the famous pigeon towers, which have become one of the symbols of Qatar.

I wrote more about Katara Cultural Village in my long article about the main attractions of Doha. The link to it will be below. Read it – there are a lot of interesting things there.
Hotels with private beaches
Beaches and beach clubs operating at hotels in Doha are a separate story. Only guests of specific hotels can swim and sunbathe there freely. But everyone else is either not allowed in there AT ALL, or they are not ACTUALLY allowed in (charging completely inadequate prices for admission).

As an example, you can see what the coastal area looks like at the Four Seasons Hotel. There is a small beach and a whole string of different pools around it. In the winter of 2026, admission here cost 140 rials (that is, four times more than in the neighboring West Bay club).

Hotels also have their own private beaches:
- The St. Regis;
- Sheraton Grand
- Hilton doha the pearl
- Rixos Gulf, and many others.
If you value privacy (or want to jump on a chaise longue directly from the balcony of your room), it’s better to choose one of these hotels right away. But I would not come here from the outside (and pay inadequate money for admission every time).
The Qatari Maldives, tropical parties and the best beaches in Doha
In my opinion, it is worth repeating here that YOU NEED TO CHOOSE A BEACH IN DOHA IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE HOTEL WHERE YOU PLAN TO LIVE. They, like Chip and Dale (or two Twix sticks), are often extensions of each other. And there is a lot of evidence for this.
For example…

Photo from the website hilton.com
Sushisamba Beach Club – with “tropical” the atmosphere, beach parties and regular DJ performances. Guests of the Waldorf Astoria Lusail can relax here for free, but everyone else will have to pay (from 50 to 395 QAR, depending on gender, age and a specific day of the week).
For a family of three, the entrance fee to the beach will be close to the cost of a full-fledged hotel room.
Or here is the fashionable, stylish and modern beach club Azure beach doha.

You can get here for free by booking a hotel through a specific tour operator. At the moment, these are the Belarusian Intercity and the Russian Pax.
In a separate line, I’ll tell you about Banana Island (300-395 QAR), which is essentially a private resort with luxury villas above the water and views reminiscent of the Maldives.

Just getting here is not the easiest task. But once you book a room in this hotel, all the problems will disappear by themselves.
Free beaches in Doha
Technically, they exist. But in reality, these are rather not beaches, but sad wastelands that have not yet been reached by the hand of a brave Pakistani builder.

The most famous of all is the beach near the Legtaifiya metro (behind the large inscription District one), which I came across in the collections of three Qatari bloggers at once. I arrived there, but in reality I saw not a beach, but rather a nascent construction site.

Tired couriers and taxi drivers were sleeping on the green lawns. The basketball courts were locked. And the smiling chefs from the local food court looked at me as if I were an alien from another universe (and tried their best to seduce me with cheap shawarma).

I am sure that in a year or two there will be another cool Beach Club in Doha – with sun beds, umbrellas and security at the entrance. But now it’s a coastal wasteland, where bricks and tired builders lie in the sand.
Another free beach in Doha is located in the West Bay area, between the Sheraton and Four Seasons hotels. It’s quite small, but people really swim here. Therefore, it was even marked in Google maps. There it is signed as West Bay Public Beach.

There are quite a few disadvantages of this beach. It’s small, rocky, and unkempt. Bonfires are lit there from time to time, so the police often appear in the nearby parking lot. But (unlike District One) it really can be called a beach. The water is clear there, and there are even small crabs running under the local boulders.

A separate topic is “deceitful beaches”, which attract you with clean sand and lack of fences. You go there, take off your shoes, get settled in.get comfortable and listen to the measured singing of the waves next to you.

And for a while everything seems perfect, but literally 10 minutes later a pumped-up black security guard comes running to you and starts politely chasing you away.
I’ve encountered this situation twice. The first time was on Pearl Island, on this deserted beach (at the Abraj towers complex)…

And another time – in the West Bay area, on a neat beach behind the Cipriani restaurant.

Both times I was told that these are private beaches and it is forbidden to be here. But I still haven’t figured out who they belong to, or who can swim there.
You can recognize such places by the complete absence of people by the sea.
“Italian beaches” in an Arab country
Something in between paid and free beaches can be foundin the “Venetian” quarter of Qanat Quartier – in the north of Doha. Formally, only people who rent housing in the area can relax on local beaches. But in reality, there are no guards or fences. Therefore, you can go to the beach and fall on the nearest sunbed absolutely freely.

There are several beaches in the Qanat Quartier area at once.
To find them, use any offline navigator (for example, MAPS.me ) or just look at the pointers.

There will be regular names like: Lido venezia beach or Lido Lagoon.
Bonus: The 3 best beaches in the suburbs of Doha
Qatar is a very small country (about the size of the Minsk region). There are wide (and half-empty) roads here. And a liter of gasoline is not much more expensive than a liter of water (about $ 0.56). Therefore, if time permits, you can rent a car and arrange a big trip around the country. After all, you can also find many amazing places outside of Doha.
Here we can recall the old Zubar fort and the next to it Olafur Eliasson’s Mirror installation with the beautiful title “Shadows traveling on the sea of day“…

Or you can go back to the shores of the Persian Gulf. After all, Qatar’s three most impressive beaches are already located outside its capital.
The first one is Fuwairit Beach. The beach is known for its shallow lagoons and white strips of sand that literally cut into the sea.

Photo from Visit Qatar website.
From April to June, this place operates as a maternity hospital for turtles of the Bissa family. The rest of the time, windsurfers, kitesurfers and tourists of all stripes spend their time here.
The coordinates of the beach are 26.0336, 51.3789, Jabal Fuwairit, Zone 79 (about 100 km from Doha). You can check the cost of renting a car in Qatar on this site.
Location #2 is Umm Bab Beach (or Al-Khraj). A picturesque white sand beach on the west coast of Qatar. It is popularly known as the “Palm Beach” because of the sprawling groves that create the atmosphere of a desert oasis.

Photo source: visitqatar.com .
The coordinates of the place are: 25.174701, 50.857006, Al-Shahaniya, zone 84, (91 km from Doha). If you go here, look for the village of Umm Bab in the navigator. Al-Hraj Beach is its main attraction.
A separate story is the beaches of the reserve Khor Al-Adaid (Khor Al Adaid) and other places of the so-called “The Inner Sea“. You can only get here with a guided tour on special off-road vehicles. But you will be rewarded with absolutely unique places – with high dunes, shallow bays and the waters of the Persian Gulf, which jut deep into the desert.

Photo from the website visitqatar.com.
The “Inner Sea” is a combination of white sand and clear blue water, creating amazing landscapes. Most people come here to watch the sunset, swim in the sea or arrange a jeep safari. But there are also more unique tours, the purpose of which is “photo hunting” for flamingos, gazelles and Arabian oryx that live here.
You can view the cost of such excursions here (eng) and here (rus).

And with these words, I will say goodbye. As a final chord, I advise you to read my other materials about Qatar.
- Here here I talked about different areas of Doha and where it is better for tourists to stay;
- And in this articleI have collected everything that you need to know before traveling to Qatar (from the street dress code to the rules of behavior during Ramadan).
Thank you for reading this article to the end. If you still have any questions, welcome to the comments.
